The Master and PhD programs at SNU aspire to contribute to the scholarship of Strategy and International Management by providing students with rigorous academic training, both in terms of theory and empirics.

Theory refers to both seminal work and its associated research updates in the field.
Empirics refers to the careful analysis of phenomena in strategy and international management, utilizing rigorous methodologies.

The program’s coursework, qualifying exam, and thesis defense are designed with the goal of nurturing the future scholars on our field.

Research Seminars in Strategy and International Management

This graduate seminar aims to develop student research capabilities by introducing recent research trends in strategy and international management.

The topics include the domains of business policy and strategy (BPS), international management (IM), technology and innovation management (TIM), and organization and management theory (OMT).The seminar achieves this goal through two key components 1) inviting top scholars in their respective fields to present their cutting-edge research, and 2) conducting follow-up sessions where the faculty in charge leads discussions regarding the invited scholar's talk, main research topic, and future prospects.  
Research Methods in Strategic Management

This graduate seminar is intended as an introduction to the methods of the social sciences and to the particular issues raised by strategic management research.

The seminar discusses the main topics of research methods including research design, construct measurement, and causality, particularly through each student’s own research project utilizing archival, survey and field research.
The class also includes discussion encompassing important research method topics related to quasi-experiments, panel construction, and content analysis. 
Studies in Strategy and International Business I

This graduate seminar constitutes a broad overview and critical review of the seminal literature in strategic management and international business.

It provides an overall introduction and a fundamental understanding of the field, a necessary foundation for the development of future theoretical and empirical work by our students. The course includes discussions encompassing the fundamental paradigms of strategic management, including competitive strategy, the resource-based view of the firm, knowledge management and innovation, network effects, Schumpeterian competition, complexity, and networks. 
Studies in Strategy and International Business II

This graduate seminar constitutes a broad overview and critical review of the seminal literature in strategic management and international business that builds on Studies in Strategy and International Business I.

It provides an overall introduction and a fundamental understanding of the field, a necessary foundation for the development of future theoretical and empirical work by our students. The course includes discussions encompassing the fundamental paradigms of strategic management, including the behavioral theory of the firm, organizational learning, corporate governance and top management teams, as well as the corporate environment and firm strategic responses.
